Upgrading the RAM (random access memory) on a used Apple laptop may sound intimidating, but there are only a few things you have to know before buying the memory you need.
The first and most important thing you need to do is make sure the physical size of the memory module is compatible to the used Apple laptop. Make sure you buy memory intended for laptops, because it is physically smaller than full-size DIMM memory modules meant for desktop computers.
If your used Apple laptop is an older model it probably uses SDRAM (Synchronous Dynamic Random Access Memory). This type of memory is no longer installed in newer laptops, but you can still buy it to upgrade the RAM in your older model.
If you plan to use your used Apple laptop for games you will need a lot more RAM than if you only plan to use it for basic office operations. For the office option, you'll need at least 256 MB - having more is definitely better. To run newer, advanced multimedia games and programs effectively, you're looking at least 1 to 2 GB or more.
Used Apple laptops can be made to perform just like the latest models if you're willing to take the step of upgrading the RAM. It's quick, easy and inexpensive to upgrade.
