Buying A Used Apple Laptop – iBook G4
If you're in the market for a good used Apple laptop, the Apple iBook G4 is a smart choice and your options are vast.
When the iBook G4 was released, the hard disk drive capacities were 30GB, 40GB or 60GB with combo DVD-ROM/CD-RW drives. Your used Apple laptop should have these at a minimum - if not, the seller may have swapped out the hard disk drive or the optical media drive. Not a good thing. On the other hand, if the capacity is higher, you're looking at a custom machine that will likely be more worth your money.
Used Apple laptops are notoriously bad as far as the batteries go (but that's true of all used laptops). When the G4 laptops came out Apple said that with a 12.1-inch display and the standard 50-watt-hour lithium-ion battery you could get up to 6 hours of battery life per charge. Computer company's always overestimate the time, but a good 4.5 to 5 hours was standard. A used Apple laptop will generally hold a shorter charge than that, unless the original battery has been replaced.
How much should you pay for a good used Apple laptop? That depends on the OS/software installed on the computer, any upgrades, condition of the exterior and the display. One thing's certain - don't put down your money on a used Apple laptop until you have proof that it boots up.
